I studied art at Falmouth School of Art in the late 1980's, when it was still a tiny Fine Art College. I worked mostly with printmaking and mixed media in those days, integrating textiles and words into my pieces, and working about the cycles in nature. I had kids as soon as I left Falmouth, and got rather distracted by having to create things that I could pick up & put down around childcare, and also with making a more consistent income than I might have been able to make as an artist. Now that my kids have left home I have come back to my passion for appreciating and celebrating the beauty of the world around me through painting. I began to experiment with painting....and particularly painting in oils....when I needed to keep a step or two ahead of the students on my art classes! I have completely fallen in love with working in oils.....as you'll see by the lack of anything else in the gallery!! In 2016 my partner & I moved from Sennen to an even wilder and windier spot, still near Lands End, but on the Porthcurno side. I now - finally - have my dream studio; a wonderful wooden workshop in the field, with a sea view. If you're ever in the vicinity do drop in & visit....best to call me first to make sure I'm around. You'll see that what I'm most drawn to painting is the edge of the land and the sea....that ever-changing boundary between two very different worlds. I am loving finding ways to make the water move, or the reflections shimmer.....to make the rocks look majestic, the boulders sculptural and sea-smoothed. As I'm relatively new to this media I still find it challenging....but actually, that's maybe why I get so excited by it too....it's like I'm always discovering new ways to use it, and more effective techniques. Alongside my painting, I also work as a life coach, arts for health practitioner and workshop facilitator. Last year I finally found a way to truly integrate both aspects of my work, and have begun a series of 52 (maybe more!) paintings that will become the images for an "oracle card" pack which I can use with my clients.
